Virtualized Servers vs. Dedicated Servers
NCDTech offers two types of servers: virtual private servers and dedicated servers.
Virtual Private Servers
A virtual private server is a pseudo-dedicated solution for smaller domains with low resource usage sites that have special needs, as opposed to an actual dedicated server that is often acquired for high usage needs.
With a virtual private server, your domain is placed on a server that also supports other virtualized clients. A virtual private server offers more options than a shared server, giving you more freedom with software installs, coding and scripts. However, certain software does not run well in a virtualized environment, including firewalls and anti-virus clients.
Dedicated Servers
Each dedicated server is devoted to an individual client. With a dedicated server, you can install or update any program at anytime. Dedicated servers are ideal for clients that want to host multiple sites on one server, have high-traffic web sites, and have outgrown a virtualized server. Other reasons to consider a dedicated server include the need for a feature not offered on virtual servers, increased security and full control over software installations.
